Resumo | One of the big challenges faced by transportation planning in Brazil is the use of outdated methods to deal with large number of variables and policies. Traditional methods still in use by transportation practitioner were designed decades ago, and present limited capacity to perform optimal deliverables due to the today´s complexity of the variables and the policies. Geospatial technologies such as GIS and remote sensing allow not only the optimization of the data processing and graphic outputs, but also build up a comprehensive model to handle spatial data analysis and compute predictive scenarios for transportation planning. Nowadays, the availability of free data and free tools amplify even more the potential of GIS modeling to solve problems in transportation planning. This paper presents a technique for modeling optimal corridors for railroad projects using freely available software and data. The solution employed TOPODATA and LANDSAT-8 data, and was built on Dynamic EGO platform..The case study corresponds to 120km of a planned federal railroad segment between Comodoro/MT and Vilhena/RO. Six major variables of interest integrates the scope of the multicriteria analysis: vegetation, anthropic use, developed areas, slope, native indian protected lands and distance from roads. First, a general cumulative cost surface was computed from the multicriteria analysis, and then two cost distance maps from Comodoro/MT and from Vilhena/RO computed to support the corridor analysis. The modeling was performed at three different scenarios. Each scenario correspond to a set of weight for the variables - sensitivity analysis..The model was proposed to be flexible regarding the variables of interest, robust regarding the performance, and replicable regarding other areas to be applied to. The results show the potential of the technique to design transportation corridors integrating a diversity of complex data. The model provides a outstanding solution for early accessing the corridor area for environmental impact analysis and mitigation studies. Other than railroads, the model can be customized to other types of infrastructure projects such as roads, transmission lines and pipelines. |
